B1 prompt bank for emails, opinion texts, and short reflective reports.

How to use this page

Write 120-180 words per prompt.
Aim for 3-4 paragraphs with clear functions.

Prompt set (B1)

  1. Opinion: Should students work part-time during studies?
  2. Email: Write to a landlord about an apartment question.
  3. Experience report: Describe a course or workshop and what you learned.
  4. Complaint: Report a product/service issue and request a solution.
  5. Recommendation: Suggest a city activity for a visiting friend.

Paragraph template

  1. Intro: context + purpose
  2. Main point 1 + example
  3. Main point 2 / contrast
  4. Conclusion / request

Useful language chunks

Self-check (B1)

  1. Is each paragraph doing one clear job?
  2. Did I support my opinion with at least one concrete example?
  3. Are transitions visible between paragraphs?
  4. Is the conclusion consistent with the body?
  5. Is tone appropriate for context (formal/informal)?

Writing tip

If your text feels repetitive, improve paragraph purpose first, vocabulary second.
Structure problems cannot be fixed by synonyms alone.
