Advanced editing protocol for final drafts
C1Use a multi-pass C1 editing protocol to improve logic, precision, and stylistic control.
Goal
Build a repeatable editing system so final drafts are consistently high quality.
Five-pass editing protocol
- Structure pass: check paragraph roles and argument order
- Logic pass: verify claims, support, and consistency
- Language pass: grammar, word choice, collocations
- Style pass: rhythm, emphasis, redundancy
- Surface pass: punctuation, formatting, final polish
Structure pass questions
- Does each paragraph have one core function?
- Is the thesis visible and maintained?
- Are transitions directional, not decorative?
Logic pass questions
- Is each claim supported?
- Are counterarguments acknowledged fairly?
- Do conclusions follow from evidence?
Style pass techniques
- Cut filler phrases (im Grunde, sozusagen, irgendwie) in formal texts.
- Replace vague verbs (machen, sein) with precise alternatives where appropriate.
- Alternate sentence length to improve readability and emphasis.
Compression routine
After all passes, reduce the text by 8-12% without losing meaning.
This usually removes repetition and improves clarity.
Writing tip
Excellent C1 writing is rarely first-draft writing.
Quality comes from deliberate revision cycles, not from writing faster.
